The cause of Alzheimer’s is not black and white, as there are many contributing medical conditions that can cause a person to develop Alzheimer’s.

Lifestyle Changes

However, there are lifestyle changes that you can implement in your life now to help prevent Alzheimer’s. Look below for things that your future self will thank you for implementing in your daily routine.

  • Eat nutritious foods that your body needs and thrives off. It is important to consult your doctor before making lifestyle changes, especially with nutrition. Ask your doctor to run tests that can determine which types of food you should avoid and which types of food your body loves.
  • Don’t let physical exercise take a back seat! To be in the best health as possible to avoid Alzheimer’s and other illnesses & diseases, it is important to take care of yourself. Exercise not only allows your muscles to be strong and healthy, it will create endorphins within your body. Endorphins will make you happy and feel good, keeping your mental health top of mind as well as your physical health.
  • Get enough sleep! A healthy night of sleep is about seven to eight hours per night, but many of us are not getting nearly that amount. Sleep is such an important part of our mental and physical health, we should honor our bodies with sleep just as we do with exercise and nutrition. Without an adequate amount of sleep, our bodies alter the levels of beta-amyloid, tau and inflammation in our spinal fluids. These altered levels within our bodies are directly correlated to Alzheimer’s which makes sleep and the quality of your sleep incredibly important.

Unfortunately, there is not a magic remedy or lifestyle change that will fully prevent Alzheimer’s, but these lifestyle changes are certainly a good start. These subtle changes to your life could be the gateway to a happier, healthier and longer life. If you had the chance to prevent Alzheimer’s, would you?
