The Different Types of Home Care Services

The Different Types of Home Care Services

Not all people who receive in-home care are chronically ill or injured. In fact, many of them just need help with day-to-day tasks. That’s the beauty of home care in Manhattan Beach; it’s specifically tailored to meet the needs of both the patient and the patient’s family. Understanding the different types of in-home care is the first step in establishing which type of service is right for your loved one.

At-Home Physician Care

For those patients who require a higher level of medical care, in-home doctor’s visits are available. This type of service involves regular house calls made by licensed physicians. Whether the appointment is needed to diagnose or treat an illness or injury, it’s a beneficial way to ensure that loved ones receive specialized care.

Nursing Care

The most common form of home health care is issued by registered nurses and nursing assistants. Under the direction of a doctor, a South Bay caregiver is assigned to the case of a specific patient to ensure the stability and fluidity of treatment. After a treatment plan is designed and approved by a physician, the nurse attends to the needs of their patients within the comfort of their own home. Nurses are qualified to handle wound dressing, ostomy care, IV therapy, medication administration, pain management, and other types of health support.

Occupational and Physical Therapy

Due to aging, injury, or illness, some patients require additional help when it comes to relearning certain motor skills. Impaired speech and range of motion can all benefit from different types of specialized therapies. In-home treatments allow physical therapists to visit patients at home to perform physical, occupational, or speech therapy methods. Through these treatments, patients may see an improvement in their quality of life and regain the ability to perform certain day-to-day tasks.

Social Services

In some cases, the welfare of a patient is handled by a social services case worker. The services provided by these professionals can be performed at home to better suit the needs of the patient. Whether your loved one needs counseling or help receiving certain benefits and resources, their social service case manager can help. It’s especially beneficial to enlist the help of an in-home social service worker when your loved one’s medical condition requires extensive care and the coordination of many different specialists.

Companionship Services

In some cases, patients don’t need specialized medical care but still need in-home services. Companionship services provide comfort and supervision to those who may be lonely or who are home alone for long periods of time. On top of providing company, they may cook basic meals and perform light housekeeping duties.

At-Home Dietary Support

As patients age, they may have certain dietary restrictions that need to be observed. To ensure that they still receive proper nutrition and thrive, dieticians can visit them at home, review their diet, and provide guidance.

One of the biggest issues elderly patients face is their inability to transport themselves to and from doctor’s appointments. Whether their health is too poor for them to operate a car or they no longer feel comfortable behind the wheel, there are options available. At-home transportation services are available to pick your loved one up from home, drive them safely to their appointments, and bring them back.

Home Health Aides

When the day-to-day tasks become too much to bear, it’s time to hire a home health aide. These professional individuals are available daily to help your loved one get out of bed, bathe, eat, and walk. This type of care is usually monitored carefully by a nurse, as home health aides aren’t typically certified to perform any sort of medical care.

Whether your loved one needs dietary support or your looking for a nurse to perform home care in Redondo Beach, selecting the right type of at-home service is key to the quality of life your loved one enjoys.

Pros: It’s nice working here. With this agency, you have a very flexible schedule. There are a lot of 4-5 hour shifts, although they do offer overnight shifts as well from 8 hours, maybe 12. You can qualify for employee benefits after 1 year of working here. They have “emergency rate” wages as well, these are last minute shifts that can raise from $1-5 an hour; if they hired you at $14hr and they give you an (e-rate) emergency rate then it’ll probably be from $15, $16, $17+ depending on the case. Traveling is required and they did have a virtual interview with me. They have employees working 24 hours if you decide to call them. They use the CC-Go app to clock in and clock out. They also give you a link to a corporate perks website that will give you discounts on phones, plane tickets, hotels ect. Cons: Communication with the office/managers can be difficult at times because when you call, anyone/random person can answer. My personal recommendation as a company request for employee(s): Sending each caregiver a “care package” in a ziplock bag with gloves, masks, hand sanitizer, ect. in case a facility or client doesn’t have the supplies needed. Having these “care packages” would help the company prevent any further sicknesses when dealing with urination and bowel movements if anything were to happen.
