How In-Home Care Can Help Those with Dementia

As you or your loved one begins their life post dementia diagnosis, it is important to remember that this does not have to define one’s livelihood.

There are plenty of ways to ensure that an individual with dementia lives a happy and content life, while dealing with their diagnosis in the best way possible. As dementia progresses, the signs and symptoms may worsen, leaving them unable to carry out daily tasks that they once had no problem accomplishing. This can become frustrating to them and cause them to lose their sense of freedom and independence. However, it is important to remember that this does not have to be the beginning of the end for them; there is hope.

How Can a Caregiver Help?

Hiring an in-home caregiver can give the individual with dementia a sense of relief and they may feel as though they have gained back their freedom. Although he or she may not be able to do their daily tasks solely on their own, they will have the help that they need in order to accomplish their daily goals. Looking after a family member or loved one with dementia can be exhausted and often times can lead to resentment, anxiety or depression over time. Not only will a caregiver give the dementia patient the ability to complete their daily tasks, but it will give the familial caregivers a chance to receive rest, while their loved ones are still in good hands.
