New Year’s Resolutions for Caregivers
The New Year is upon us! It is an exciting time to hit the ‘refresh’ button and start your year with new goals in mind. New Year’s Resolutions are made to give individuals attainable goals that will help them grow as a person. Resolutions can vary from reading an extra book each month to making time to see family every week. For caregivers, it is important to create a list of New Year’s Resolutions that will allow them to have a healthy mind, soul and body. We encourage caregivers to consider the following tips when creating their list of New Year’s Resolutions.
• Make time for yourself. This could mean that at the end of every shift, you go to your favorite spot to sit and think or meditate. Taking the time for yourself will allow you to reset, recharge and give you the boost you may need for the next day.
• Find time for exercise. Exercising can give you a boost of energy that can carry you through your day or can serve as an outlet to wind down after a long shift. Exercise can boost your endorphin’s and improve your overall mood and mental health, so aim for at least 20 minutes a day!
• Eat well and with intention. When you make time to pay attention to nutrition and fueling your brain and body with the foods it needs, you will have more energy and overall improve your mental health and mood. Fueling your body and mind with healthy grains, lean protein and a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables can help you feel like your best self!
• Be patient with yourself. It is important that you acknowledge and respect the feelings that you have. It is normal to feel stressed at times and happy during other times. Be patient with yourself and know that your feelings are valid. Take a deep breath, asses why you are feeling that way and what you can do to change it.
This New Year, make resolutions that will make you a better caregiver, a better person and will make yourself proud. We recognize how hard you work each and every day for our wonderful clients and we hope that you will accomplish goals in 2018 that will keep you happy and healthy!
