A Safer Approach to in home care during COVID19

A Safer Approach to in home care during COVID19

Social distancing is going to be around for the foreseeable future. Until there’s a treatment and/or a vaccine for COVID-19, social distancing remains the only tool we have for protecting vulnerable populations from contracting the virus. At the same time, the physical and emotional needs of these individuals haven’t changed; the elderly, disabled, and infirm still need consistent, compassionate care day and night. In-home care remains an important part of the equation. In fact, now more than ever, in-home care is critical to keeping vulnerable patients safe and healthy because it makes it possible for them to stay in the safest place: home.

The Benefits of Home Care

Home care comes with lots of benefits, including:

  • Comfort. Staying home is always more comfortable than moving to an assisted living facility or a rehabilitation facility.
  • Independence. Every patient, young or old, benefits physically and emotionally from maintaining as much independence as possible. Living at home preserves independence, even when it involves help.
  • Customized care. There’s nothing rote or automatic about in-home care; every visit finds caregivers meeting specific needs. Care regimens are designed around the individual; whether you need help with running errands, medications, housework, or personal care, you can get exactly the care you need when you need it.

None of that has changed with COVID. But, in the current reality, in-home care provides additional significant benefits. They are:

  • Social distancing. Home care patients avoid interactions with large groups present in assisted living and rehabilitation facilities.
  • Special training. Caregivers have been carefully and thoroughly trained on how to prevent transmission of COVID-19. Their attentive adherence to strict health and cleanliness protocols when entering your home mean you can be confident in your safety.
  • Hospital avoidance. Patients receiving in-home care may avoid trips to the ER, where they risk exposure to COVID-19. Assistance with medications, help with household chores, well-supported personal care, and regular emotional well-being checks go a long way to keeping patients as healthy as possible and away from the hospital, ER, or doctor’s office.
  • Family support. In-home care benefits the family as well as the patient. Stay-at-home orders are a challenge for family caregivers; piling homeschooling and working from home on top of caring for a loved one creates a heavy burden. Respite care provides family caregivers with time to catch their breath, recharge their batteries, and attend to their other responsibilities.

Now really is the time to stay at home and get the care you need from in-home caregivers.

S.A.F.E.R. at Home

24 Hour Home Care is an industry leader in providing high-quality home care. We are following closely all the latest news and information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding the progress and transmission of COVD-19 to ensure that our caregivers are armed with the most advanced safety protocols. With that in mind, we’ve launched our S.A.F.E.R. at Home approach to home care during the COVD-19 pandemic.

Supporting those directly impacted by COVID-19. Our caregivers are trained and ready to provide safe in-home care to patients personally infected with the virus or who live with someone who has contracted or been exposed to the virus.

Always available 24/7 and creating connections. As always, our caregivers are available around the clock. The needs of our patients don’t stop when the sun goes down, and neither do we.

Focused on protecting our clients and our caregivers. Health and safety protocols protect caregivers and patients alike. We’re all better off when we stay healthy, which is why we wear masks, wash our hands, and take extra measures to sanitize oft-touched surfaces per CDC guidelines. In addition, none of our caregivers will ever come to your home if they’re sick, and we require self-quarantining for 14 days following international travel.

Ensuring we’re up to date on protocols and regulations. What we know about COVID-19 is changing daily, so it’s no surprise that safety protocols are also changing rapidly. The team at 24 Hour Home Care is committed to staying plugged in to the most current information about COVID-19. We keep in constant contact with our caregivers and ensure that they are well-versed in and compliant with all the best practices for health and safety.

Responding to the evolving needs of our communities. As new cases of COVID-19 arise in our communities, we’re poised and ready to respond with exceptional care.

Pros: It’s nice working here. With this agency, you have a very flexible schedule. There are a lot of 4-5 hour shifts, although they do offer overnight shifts as well from 8 hours, maybe 12. You can qualify for employee benefits after 1 year of working here. They have “emergency rate” wages as well, these are last minute shifts that can raise from $1-5 an hour; if they hired you at $14hr and they give you an (e-rate) emergency rate then it’ll probably be from $15, $16, $17+ depending on the case. Traveling is required and they did have a virtual interview with me. They have employees working 24 hours if you decide to call them. They use the CC-Go app to clock in and clock out. They also give you a link to a corporate perks website that will give you discounts on phones, plane tickets, hotels ect. Cons: Communication with the office/managers can be difficult at times because when you call, anyone/random person can answer. My personal recommendation as a company request for employee(s): Sending each caregiver a “care package” in a ziplock bag with gloves, masks, hand sanitizer, ect. in case a facility or client doesn’t have the supplies needed. Having these “care packages” would help the company prevent any further sicknesses when dealing with urination and bowel movements if anything were to happen.
